How do businesses in the textile and garment industry improve social standards and reduce environmental impact?

Does fine features make fine birds? Who are those ones, that build the ‘House of clothes’

In almost every class focused on economics, they aim to define and teach the principles of Economics and how to grow up a business. Maybe we should take a closer look in to history when some forwarded thinkers wrote a book called ‘The Limits of growth’. How they tried to explain/model what could potentially happen with the todays world and human being, if we keeping going the same way without changing our mind-set. We should consider that if the primary goal of businesses in the future should be maximizing the medium term earnings per share, constant growth (rapidly!) or re-think the current system entirely. Seems to be that economy is a bit paradox and the human economy is a phenomenon.

Will a producer supply a good or service simply because a consumer demands it? Will a consumer demand a good or service simply because a producer supplies it? It is evident that there is a need for a market for the products produced with creating profit, but the question is how? Byron Fisher from the American International University in London brings in his book ‘The Supply and Demand Paradox’more clarity about this questions which I state above. In my opinion it’s kind of crazy that ‘Demand can create supply however, supply cannot create demand.’

I tried to take a closer look to the question who lives in the ‘House of Clothes’. The Sustainability strategy by H&Mis defined: “Sustainability is at the core of our business and will lead the way for our future growth“. I ask myself if 1900 shops are not enough and what about investing in current small market share products rather in David´s then in Goliaths (as they call it in their terminology).

To sum that all up the way of making profit is way harder today and will get even harder in the future.

“We always overestimate the change that will occur in the next two years and underestimate the change that will occur in the next ten.”

Bill Gates

One of the most important factors in this process is the motivation/ambition of both sides (the share and stakeholder). All who are a part of the supply chain. I believe marketing combined with the multiplicator digitalization makes us nevertheless hungry to buy!

Buon appetito!
